I love visiting schools, senior centers, hospitals and churches and sharing my story about my hats and how my life has changed since beginning Fat Thumb. Mostly, I love inspiring others and encouraging them to give back as even something small can make a huge impact on the lives of others. After sharing my story, I invite those who want to help me give back by painting little wooden hearts to decorate my hats and handbags. After the project is done, I ask everyone if they already know someone to give their heart to or ask them if they would like to donate the heart to my cause and to decorate the hats I give to hair-loss patients. Everyone LOVES doing this and the pins turn out so cute.
Last year, I visited a second grade class in my area and the whole class helped me paint pins. At the end of the project, we had a drawing and two pins were chosen to decorate the hats I sent to Malia and Sasha Obama during Easter. The two lucky artists were thrilled when Michelle Obama wrote thanking me for the hats and thanking the two second grade artists for their beautiful pins.
